What an amazing year!! 2017 has been terrific with the launch of Marbles iOS and android apps version 2.o and the Marbles community resolved 227 posts this year!

That’s 227 issues, challenges, concerns, or questions that were addressed and represent an improvement in people’s lives — for real!

Nearly 3,000 people have downloaded Marbles and tracked their mental and emotional health in 2017. Here is what it looked like!

If you want, you can compare that graph with 2016.

These are the Reflection scores of our users. Reflection scores are sort of like a mood tracker that rates 7 essential components of mental and emotional health. This chart aggregates them across all of our users and displays the real-time fluctuations of these results.

Higher is good, lower is bad. So during 2017…

  • Reflections trend downward until mid-March
  • Results peak around end of March (or spring break time)
  • Users report feeling better through the beginning of summer
  • There is a slight downward turn during the end of July and into August
  • Scores increase steadily until the end of September
  • After September, watch out! Scores steadily decrease for the rest of the year with some peaks near Halloween, Thanksgiving break, and Christmas-time

All in all, there is a lot of movement throughout the year! Do you feel like you follow this pattern? What would your families, co-workers, friends, or your own personal Reflections look like? Tell us on the socials @getmarblesapp

Here’s a bit about who our users are…

Demographics: Most of our users are in their 20’s and/or female

Users’ average age is 25 years old, roughly 60% of the community identifies as female, and the majority identify as straight.

Users report a mix of races and sexual orientation and our research suggests that non-straight, non-white, and non-female users are more active users of Marbles! So, we’ve built something that diverse groups of people feel more comfortable reaching out and connecting for support than others.

Here are the breakdowns of Gender, Sexual Orientation, and Race.

User Behavior: Most Activity Occurs Early in the Week and Late in the Evening

Users post less often as the week goes on and we also see posting most frequently between 10pm and midnight.

This could be because people are feeling more stress during the beginning of the week. Also, more users could feel alone and isolated at night which would be why we see more people reaching out for support and posting later in the day.

So far we’ve collected nearly 90,000 data points on our communities mood! Users have also shared nearly 20,000 messages with each other on Marbles!

We are excited to announce a few research projects and pilots with some colleges, universities, and employers that are scheduled to launch in early 2018! Stay tuned and join the discussion!

For those of you who’ve used the app, you know the animal avatars we use to keep our messaging anonymous. We use a 100% random generator to assign avatars to posters and responders, however, we wanted to see if there were any potential insights that could be found in this dataset and were pleasantly surprised!

Each person who downloads Marbles can post in our anonymous forum about what may be on their mind in hopes of finding support or advice. Each time they do that, they are randomly assigned an animal avatar from this list!

Let’s take the extremes, Buffalos posted and resolved the least and Octopuses posted and resolved the most relative to the other avatars! Pretty odd coincidence when contrasting that with their physical and behavioral characteristics!

— That’s sort of what Marbles is all about…helping self-awareness, redefine a positive worldview, and unlock the power inside to live a life worth living.

Nobody needs to struggle alone, join Marbles and discover how we are doing it.

Can you find some interesting comparisons between the characteristics of buffalo, octopus, and others that could explain some of this phenomena? We can! Tell us on one of our socials @getmarblesapp!

Thank you for being a part of our amazing community in 2017 and beyond! We have so many amazing plans for 2018, we hope you’ll join the journey!
